We are extremely sun smart in the Kidding Around Australia house as both sides of our
family have had skin cancers removed, including me (Georgina). Australia has one of the
highest rates of skin cancer in the world and not everyone realises that sun exposure in the first 10 years of life plays a large part in determining your lifetime potential for skin cancer.

Alegría said that is super comfy and she loves it! Isaac loved the different designs and ultimately went with an outdoors inspired design which is perfect for our new Raising Nature Lovers School Holiday Program.

The head behind Bedhead Hats is 35-year- old mum of one, Richelle Ellis. Having a very out-doorsy newborn boy, Richelle desperately searched for a baby-friendly hat that provided optimum sun protection. All Richelle found was heavy, hot canvases, clashing prints and floppy brims that were either too big or uncomfortable for her baby. So, in 2011, Richelle launched Bedhead Hats to fill this gap in the market and deliver hats that were not only tested on the UPF protection of fabric, but also the size and angle of brim – while being cleverly designed to stay on small heads!

Richelle is not only a talented business woman, she is also passionate about philanthropic purpose. Richelle has started a new community initiative ‘Protect the Potential’ that will see Bedhead Hats give away $100,000 worth of hats to newborns in Australia including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

That’s something that we all should get involved with! From the 15th September 2017, for each order placed online at www.bedheadhats.com.au, a newborn hat will be gifted or donated. Customers have the choice to gift the hat to someone they know in need or donate to charity aiding disadvantaged mothers and babies (such as St Kilda Mums and Baby Give Back) simply by purchasing any product and selecting ‘GIFT’ or ‘DONATE’ at the cart screen to pass one on to a child in need. Amazing.

JORD Wood Watch Review and Competition

I have been admiring JORD Wood Watches for a few years now and had coveted a women’s wooden watch to call my own. I love that they are handcrafted and use range of raw materials as well as the feeling of ‘wilderness wanderlust’ I get as soon as one of their images pops up in my Instagram feed.

I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to collaborate with JORD as they are a brand that I already had an emotional connection with – even though I was not yet a direct consumer. They say it is always a matter of timing and when the email came through about 10 days before Father’s Day a little thought crept into my head. I scanned the list of women’s watches in the Woman’s shop and picked my favourite. Curiosity got the better of me, so I had a look through the men’s wooden watch range as well. I kept coming back to a watch that I knew that Tim would absolutely love, but what about MY watch? I really, really want one! But the thing is, Tim is hard to buy for. I’ve lost count of the number of DVD’s and framed photos he has received as gifts, and apart from sending him skydiving for his 40th birthday, my gifts to him could be described as a bit hit and miss. Well, NOT THIS TIME!

With a spring in my fingertips, I ordered Tim a Koa and Black Dover series watch from the Men’s shop and eagerly waited for it to arrive from America. It arrived and like an excited child, I presented it to Tim! He was amazed and promptly announced that this was the third best present he has ever received (after Alegría and Isaac!). He was so excited that I didn’t have the heart to point out that they weren’t actually presents!

Each of JORD’s wood watches has a one year warranty, but they have two rules! If you got all crazy with your watch and it got damaged they appreciate your honesty and will charge you a small fee. If there was a defect in their workmanship, they will put their heads down in shame and repair the watch free of charge. I like this.

I can honestly say that JORD watches make a unique and distinctive gift, but it’s not just the adults that love this watch. Isaac is so enthralled with Dadda’s new wood watch he has put his order in! One day, little man. One day.

Monopoly Gamer Review

Hasbro has released various branded versions of classic board game Monopoly over the years but when we heard that Hasbro and Nintendo have teamed up to introduce the Super Mario-themed Monopoly Gamer we were excited to how different it would be.

The essence of Monopoly remains the same in Monopoly Gamer, which hit stores in August, with players rolling the dice to travel around the edge of the game board, buying and trading properties but with the added fun of completing levels, token-specific abilities, coins replacing money, power-up dice and boss fights. Monopoly Gamer is next level Monopoly.

For the first time in Monopoly history, each character token (Mario, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach and Yoshi) has its own unique power-up ability, introducing another layer of strategy for new and old players alike. For example, landing on the Super Star board space will activate Princess Peach’s “Super Star” ability to collect rent from the bank, Mario rolls the game’s numbered die and collects that many coins from the bank, Yoshi collects all coins on the board, and Donkey Kong steals three coins from each player. Players can also activate a special Power-up boost by rolling the Power-up die.

When players land on or pass “Go”, they collect two coins and a boss battle begins. There are eight boss battle cards in the game, which players must fight in order. Players pay the amount of coins indicated on the card to initiate a fight and roll the die. If the number is the same or higher than that on the boss card, the player wins and the boss card goes into their inventory. The game ends when the final boss is defeated. Players tally up the points from the properties they own and the bosses they have defeated, along with 10 extra points for every five coins in their stash. The player with the highest score wins.

With Alegría and Isaac being under 8, we had to make some concessions with the rules but they still had a great time and we have all chosen our favourite tokens!

Monopoly Gamer also have downloadable content locked down in the form of Power Packs (each sold separately), which include one of several Super Mario character tokens like Luigi, Boo, Rosalina, Wario, Diddy Kong and more. The power packs are available for RRP $5.99 each.
