LAKE MOUNTAIN ALPINE RESORT – 6 MUST DO ACTIVITIES TO DO AT LAKE MOUNTAIN WITH KIDS

Every winter Lake Mountain Alpine Resort transforms into a snow-covered wonderland and the kids LOVE it!

Lake Mountain Alpine Resort

Lake Mountain Alpine Resort in Victoria is about 2 hours drive from Melbourne through the Yarra ValleyHealesville and Marysville. It is an amazingly beautiful part of the world, that we are lucky to live so close to.

As you all know by now, the Kidding Around Australia kids are nature loving daredevils so they loved experiencing all Lake Mountain Alpine Resort had to offer.

6 MUST DO THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS AT

LAKE MOUNTAIN ALPINE RESORT!

GO TOBOGGANING

Lake Mountain Tobogganing

Hire a toboggan or bring a plastic one from home (no inflatables allowed) and race each other down the Village Toboggan Run or Koala Creek Run! Don’t worry if there isn’t much snow on the mountain, there is guaranteed cover of man-made snow throughout the entire snow season on the Toboggan Runs.

STRAP ON SOME SKIS AT THE FISCHER NORDIC FUN PARK

Lake Mountain Cross Country Ski Lesson.jpg

The Fischer Nordic Fun Park is designed for kids aged 4 to 12 year old and is only for children participating in the group lessons. Each session runs for 30 minutes and is all about having fun whilst learning the basics of cross-country skiing.

Alegria and Isaac LOVED there lesson! Felix was their instructor and had them kangaroo hopping and delivering pizza in no time! They both can’t wait to try again next year.

Each 30 minute lesson costs $25 per child and includes ski equipment hire (skis & boots).

START SHREDDING AT THE BURTON RIGLET PARK

Tim was just about to burst seeing Alegria and Isaac carry their little snowboards into Burton Riglet Park. Burton began this program to get families riding together, and it couldn’t be more fun! More information on their programs can be found here

The snowboarding lessons are for kids aged 3 – 6 years (they have to be able to fit into the little boots) and let’s just say that both Alegria and Isaac take after their Dad! We see many days ahead on snowy mountain tops.

Each 30 minute lesson costs $25 per child and includes ski equipment hire (snowboard, boots and helmet). Kids are welcome to have back-to-back lessons or come back later in the day.

GET ADVENTUROUS

Lake Mountain Tube Ride

Be brave and go whizzing down the 240-meter Dual Flying Fox (which is not open when it is windy – so don’t promise this to the kids), slide down the Tube Run or join in a game of Laser Skirmish (minimum numbers apply)!

Tickets are available at the information booth on mountain on the day and cost $20 for 2 Rides (per person) on the Flying Fox, $10 for 3 Rides on the Tube Run and $15 for 45 minute session for Laser Skirmish.

BUILD A SNOWMAN AND HAVE A SNOWBALL FIGHT

Lake Mountain Snowman

You cannot go to the snow without building a snowman and throwing a few snowballs! Don’t forget to bring your own carrot for a nose!

GET CLOSER TO NATURE ON A WINTER WALK

Lake Mountain Boy on Tree.JPG

There are two walks that are appropriate for kids at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. The 600m return Leadbeaters Walk leaves from the SE corner of Gerraty’s car park. The 500m return Bjarne Dahl Memorial Walk is a wheelchair and pram accessible boardwalk at Snowy Hill car park. You can walk through the regenerating Alpine Ash forest and if there have been fresh snowfalls you can have heaps of fun playing in the snow!

OUR TOP TIPS

  • Hire all your gear on the mountain (everything can be hired except for gloves – they can be purchased from the gift shop).
  • Aim to arrive by 10am – at the latest. During busy periods the carpark closes and admit no more visitors onto the mountain. Can you imagine how you (and the kids) would feel if you drove for two hours and were turned away. Ahh!
  • All food and drinks are available at the onsite cafe – however there are undercover picnic tables so bring your own lunch! Make sure you pack some snacks and a drink bottle for the kids to enjoy during the day.
  • Adults can enjoy the many cross-country skiing trails – just buy a ski pass at the information centre on the mountain. Lessons and guided snowshoe tours are available for adults and children.
