If you have a pre-schooler, then chances are you see (and sing along with) Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band every. single. day!
We spoke with Tina Harris (aka Lah-Lah) recently about their Lah-Lah – Sing It Loud! tour, travelling with her children and a cause close to her heart.
Speaking of hearts, you will HEART us when you find out that we have tickets to their upcoming tour to GIVEAWAY!
Thank you so much for chatting with Kidding Around Australia, Tina!
Can you tell us a bit about the Lah-Lah – Sing It Loud! tour?
This is our biggest tour ever and it’s very exciting. We had a production meeting this morning and I can let you know there are some fun surprises in store for our audience. The show goes for about 50 minutes and features some brand new songs from the new Sony CD Sing it Loud. It also has some favorites from the Lah-Lah’s Adventures TV show on ABC Kids. There will be lots of singing dancing and live instruments jamming on stage and everyone will be there, Buzz the Band Leader, Squeezy Sneezy on piano accordion, Lola the Dancing Double Bass, Mister Saxophone Tom Tom on drums and Lah-Lah of course!
What are you looking forward to most whilst touring?
I just love coming out after every show and meeting the families. This is something we’ve always done and inviting kids to come over and touch and play the musical instruments. It’s pure magic after ever show.
Will your children be travelling with you whilst you are on tour?
Lily and Emily come along whenever we tour in school holidays. It’s great fun having them on the road and the band is like one big family. They especially like it when we stay at places that have pools no matter what the weather!
Do you travel very often with your children?
This year we’ll be performing at 52 venues all across Australia, about 100 concerts in total. We have tired to book as much of this in school holidays and the girls will be there for all those dates. I think across the whole year we have about 2 weeks where they’re not with us and super grandma is coming to town.
What are your favourite destinations in Australia?
Oh tough one! I do love Melbourne. Is it just me or does the coffee taste better there? I love small country towns too. This trip we’re going to Mittagong, Bendigo and Ballarat! Love bringing the show to a venue for the first time!
Do you have anything on your wish list?
Last time we were in Melbourne Gary (Squeezy Sneezy) wanted to go to the accordion shop, so the whole band went on excursion. It was so much fun. I think the most fun thing about being on the road is some of the great places we go out to eat, we’re all foodies:)
Do you have any tips for parents who travel?
Oh no, they may have tips for me though, I’m all ears, seriously!! Last year we took our girls on a family holiday to Japan. Because we were travelling around so much we all took small rolly bags rather than the big mum and dad bags. That actually worked really well for us but my girls are a bit bigger now.
Do you have any special causes that you support?
We are World Vision artists and have been for many years now. A couple of years ago the band was very lucky to be invited to tour into the far NT to visit Warlpiri communities. It was such a beautiful trip and we met some amazing families. This year we will be continuing our work to support World Vision through sponsorship and fundraising.
Thank you for taking the time to talk to us Tina – we can’t wait to pull on our stripy socks and see the show!
